IGNITE the Winter
IGNITE the Winter is a First Friday event held in March in Downtown Auburn. The festival was introduced in 2012, by IGNITE; Cayuga County’s Young Professionals, a program of the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, as a family-friendly celebration of winter developed to stimulate economic activity in Downtown Auburn during the off-season. The event was organized in partnership with the Downtown Auburn Business Improvement District and received community-wide support.
The festival includes a chili and chowder cook-off, live music, ice sculpture demonstrations, and family-friendly activities. More than a dozen vendors from Auburn and Cayuga County are expected to participate in the cook-off. Main stage acts in past years have included acoustic rock performer Dave Hawthorne, a cappella group Cayuga Chords, Merry-Go-Round Youth Theater and other up and coming performers.
IGNITE Second Tuesday Events
After forming, IGNITE began gathering young professionals at social gatherings that allowed guests to mingle, network, and visit various establishments in the community. Now we reserve every second Tuesday of the month for our gatherings. It is an opportunity for fellow young professionals to meet us at a local hotspot to mingle and network while learning something new about the hosting organization or business.
IGNITE hosts educational opportunities for young professionals, including YP101, which offers talks on home buying, stress reduction, design, local government, retirement planning and networking.
IGNITE the Vote
To bolster voter turnout in local elections, IGNITE revived the IGNITE the Vote campaign in 2011. The ongoing campaign helps educate the public about the issues in each election and includes a City Council candidate forum that’s open to the public.
Since 2012, IGNITE has used its holiday party to raise funds for local nonprofits. Proceeds have benefitted Neighborhood House, Christmas Elf, and others. The holiday party has become one of IGNITE’s most popular regular events.
